What this site keeps, and what it does not.

The site

This notice covers chemnotia.com, the website of Chemnotia, a supplier of laboratory glassware and bench consumables placed in Leuven, Flemish Brabant, Belgium. It applies to everything you read here and to anything you send through the request form or to the mailbox.

The form

The request page carries one form. It asks for a name, an email address, an organisation if you choose to give one, a delivery postcode and country, the part list itself and a message. Those fields are passed to a form-relay service that turns the submission into an email and delivers it to [email protected]; the relay holds the submission only for as long as delivery takes. What you sent is used to read the list, reply with a price list and, if you confirm, to pack and dispatch the order. It is used for nothing else.

The mailbox

Mail to [email protected] stays in that mailbox while a quotation, an order or a question about either is open, and afterwards for the period Belgian tax rules require invoices and the correspondence behind them to be kept. When that period ends the thread is deleted.

The consent entry

On a first visit a strip opens across the head of the page, above everything else, and pushes the page down rather than sitting over it. Whatever you choose there is stored as one entry, named cn_bench_pref, in your browser’s local storage, so the notice does not return. The entry records your choice and the date, nothing else. Today nothing on the site reads it: no analytics, no advertising tags and no tag manager are installed, and the site sets no cookies of its own. Should analytics ever be added, it would run only where that entry records a yes, and this notice would be rewritten first.

Fonts

Two typefaces are fetched from a font service on every page. The request goes straight from your browser to that service, which therefore sees your address as any server you fetch a file from would. No other third party is called by the site.

No sale

Nothing you send is sold, rented or handed to a third party for marketing. When an order ships, a carrier receives a delivery address and a parcel description, and nothing more.

In the European Union

The General Data Protection Regulation lets you see what is held about you, have a wrong entry put right or the whole record erased, take a machine-readable copy away with you, and object to a use you dislike. A complaint can also go to the Belgian Data Protection Authority if you feel a request was brushed aside.

In California

Under the California Consumer Privacy Act a resident of California may ask what is collected, ask for it to be deleted, opt out of any sale, and expect the same service either way. We sell nothing, so the opt-out is already in effect.

How to ask

Write to [email protected] with the request. We answer from the same address within the period the law allows, and normally within a few working days. We may ask you to confirm the address the request came from before anything is deleted.

Changes

This notice is revised when the site or the way it handles a list changes. The date at the top of the page is the date of the current version.
